RESIDENTIAL & COMMERCIAL
CCTV & Camera Surveillance System Installers – Kapiti & Levin
Is CCTV still actually CCTV or security camera surveillance?
Nowadays, what customers call closed-circuit television (CCTV), we security experts refer to as camera or video surveillance systems. Besides high-security installations, camera systems have moved from being closed to viewing over broadband internet or a mobile network. So, CCTV is an outdated term.
However, despite this, while our customers still use the CCTV terminology, we’ll continue to provide clarification. Additionally, we’ll educate our customers to ensure they learn about the security benefits this new technology offers. They are more than a simple home security video recorder.

Get extra protection and fast response times with eyes on your property 24/7
We can install your CCTV cameras and alarm system as stand-alone or monitored. Various compatible communicators are available; the one we prefer is Permaconn. This product uses a mobile network, is stable, and will work with virtually any alarm system. There is also a dual path option, meaning the chance of not being monitored is very low.
Visual verification is the latest innovation that allows alarms and camera systems to work together. Here, they effectively confirm what is happening in an area where the alarm activation occurred. Again, a Permaconn communicator can facilitate this.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a CCTV record audio?
Recording audio or sound is generally not allowed in New Zealand. However, in some circumstances, it is permitted if notification is given to anyone entering the area where recording is taking place. The Privacy Commission says, ” You would need to have a very strong case for adopting this practice.”
What are the best locations for my CCTV cameras?
The key question is: What do you want to protect, and how do you want to protect it? Cameras can provide live viewing of an area, record what happens, and send notifications to a phone app, monitoring station, or both. They can also sound sirens and have lights come on or flash to deter intruders. Modern cameras can distinguish between humans, vehicles, animals, and other objects. You must consider these factors when deciding the best CCTV location.
What are the different types of cameras and CCTV available?
There is a vast array of cameras available today. They fall into two broad categories.
- Stand-alone cameras are battery or mains-powered and usually send images via WiFi or the cellphone network to a phone app and/or the cloud. They typically have a storage card inside the camera.
- Hard-wired camera systems (known as CCTV), where the cameras are connected to a security video recorder somewhere on the premises. The recorder includes storage big enough to store video from several cameras and can be connected to the internet to report to apps, the cloud, and 24/7 monitoring stations.
